- To determine the precision percentage, divide the difference by the actual weight (0.8 / 100);
- Don’t forget to move the decimal point two spots to the right in order to find a percentage!
- In this case, your scale is accurate to within 0.8% (or 0.8 lbs in every 100).
A second example: you place a 200-pound weight on the scale and the display reads 200.67 pounds. You find the difference by subtracting the displayed weight (200.67) from the actual, expected weight (200). You then divide the difference (0.67) by the actual weight and calculate that the precision percentage of your scale is 0.335%.

However, it’s important to understand the difference between a percentage that represents accuracy and the minimum measurement for accuracy. As an example, consider precision scales of 0.001 g.
The decimal number here represents the minimum weight that the scale can detect — its sensitivity. Meanwhile an accuracy percentage of 0.001% would mean that your scale can determine a precise measurement to within 1/100,000ths of 1 pound for every 100 pounds!
