There are literally thousands of uses for industrial scales today, but it’s important when shopping for a scale to understand exactly how it will be used. Some applications require high capacities to weigh large objects, while others require precision measurements for extremely small items. Whatever application you may have for an industrial scale, know that Arlyn Scales offers a large variety of floor and bench scales to weigh materials of all shapes and sizes.
What’s the Difference Between a Floor and Bench Scale?
Bench scales are typically used in table-top applications, with models having capacity ranges from 4 lbs. to 200 lbs., depending on your needs. Floor scales on the other hand typically have larger platforms, are used on the floor, and have capacities ranging from 2,500 lbs. to 20,000 lbs. or more.
Because bench scales tend to weigh smaller objects, their precision is typically superior to that of floor scales. Bench scales are best used in instances where you’re looking for precision measurements at low capacities, whereas floor scales are best used for large, heavy objects.
Popular Floor Scales from Arlyn Scales
Below are a few of the most common floor scales for sale from Arlyn Scales. If you have any questions about any of the scales mentioned below, feel free to reach out to our team today.
Arlyn Series 5200 Floor Scales
The Arlyn 5200 Floor Scales feature a wide range of platform sizes as large as 8’ x 12’ and capacities that range from 2,500-20,000 lbs. We also offer optional full stainless steel construction for environments that may be susceptible to rust and corrosion.
All of our floor scales feature stainless steel load cells, which are much more rugged than many of our competitor’s load cells. These scales actually feature four stainless steel load cells that are recessed into the corners of the scale platform for added accuracy and ruggedness. This is a large change from other manufacturers who rely on load cells, made from inferior metal and expect it to provide accurate measurements. We precision match all of our stainless steel load cells at our factory, allowing us to completely eliminate the need for a summation board, which is a common fail point in many industrial scales.
Popular Bench Scales from Arlyn Scales
While we do offer several strain gage bench scales such as the 6200 strain gage scales, we’re most proud of our newest innovation, our SAW Ultra Precision Scales. These scales offer highly precise readings even at high capacities. These highly precise bench scales have capacities ranging from 10 – 200 lbs., and resolutions of between 0.0001 – .002 lbs. as well. This high level of accuracy coupled with higher capacity is unheard of in the bench scale industry.
These Ultra Precision Scales feature our internationally patented Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) technology that works completely different from a standard strain gage scale. While strain gage scales measure stress or strain, Ultra Precision Scales measure displacement. This allows these versatile scales to use a much thicker load cell and in turn be much more versatile and resistant to some of the problems of overloading and shock loading, that are rampant with strain gage scales. Our SAW technology can offer accurate measurements with just one tenth of the bending of the load cell when compared to standard strain gage load cell technology. This allows you to get more stability in measurements as well as avoid the common accuracy issues seen with other precision scales due to air currents, changes in temperature and nearby vibrations.
In addition to the increased accuracy, Ultra Precision bench scales also offer high capacities of up to 1000 lbs., which is unheard of, especially when you’re looking for precision measurements. Force motor restoration scales are one of the only other types of precision scales on the market, but they often can’t weigh objects heavier than 25 lbs., and can experience accuracy issues due to a variety of environmental factors.
Why Purchase a Floor or Bench Scale from Arlyn Scales?
There are a whole host of reasons why our customers continue to purchase industrial scales from our company year after year. We’ll try to highlight a few of these reasons below:
Fixture in the Scale Industry
For more than 30 years, Arlyn Scales has worked extremely hard to continue to innovate within the scale industry. This commitment to the industry and to our customers has been instrumental in our growth over the past several years. We’re constantly looking at ways that we can give back not only to our customers, but to the industry as a whole.
US Based Design & Manufacturing Process
Unlike some of our competitors, we never chased companies that were looking to move their manufacturing jobs overseas to save money. While others headed across the world to setup manufacturing facilities abroad, we stayed focused here in Long Island, New York. Our entire design and manufacturing team is all located here in New York, and this gives us a serious edge over the competition. By constantly working together, we can easily spot issues as well as talk directly with our customers to learn how they’re using our scales, and how we can improve them on a daily basis.
The bottom line is that as a US based company, we want our customers to always feel like we’re accessible. When you work with Arlyn Scales, you’re working with the actual individuals who are designing and building your scale. This level of knowledge simply can’t be provided when a company has their manufacturing facilities located across the world from their design team.
