Weighing is an integral part of many industrial processes. It facilitates quality control, automates a variety of tasks and minimizes waste. It can even be used to manage large inventories of small pieces and parts. To ensure that everything is running efficiently, weight data is often collected and transferred to an external device for storage and analysis.
You can accomplish this transfer in a variety of ways, so the port you choose will ultimately depend on what system you’re connecting your scale to and the purpose of that connection.
Arlyn Scales offers a variety of communication ports, storage devise and transfer systems to ensure that your scale can easily integrate with your existing system while giving you complete control over your data. So whether you’re tracking inventory or monitoring levels of liquefied gases, we make sure you have the storage and export capabilities you require.
Datalogging and USB Flash Drives
Do you operate your scale in an area with no access to the internet or a power source? Perhaps you require a portable model that can be moved or taken in to the field. Our datalogging system allows you to store hundreds of thousands of readings on a flash drive that can be removed and plugged into your computer, where you can download the information.
USB Port
Universal Serial Bus (USB) is the most common interface today. It’s a wired connection that allows you to plug your scale into virtually any computer or device. When used with our free USB Remote software, you can import weight data into a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet or Access database file for easy storage and review. You can also access, monitor and control your scale through the connected computer.
Ethernet
This wired connection runs through your router and gives you access to your data through your local network. Paired with our free Remote Indicator software, you can monitor, control and export data from your scale and record, sort, group and analyze the data from your workstation computer.
WiFi
Eliminate clutter and access your scale from any remote location with this wireless network connection. If your scales will remain stationary but aren’t located near your router, this is the perfect option for you. It works just like an Ethernet connection but offers the freedom of a wireless connection. Access, monitor and control your scale from any remote location on-site or around the world.
Cloud
One of the latest advancements in data technology, cloud computing allows you to process massive amounts of data over a secure connection without hard drives or a dedicated server. Data is simply stored “in the cloud” and can be accessed from anywhere in the world. This is a great option if you need to compile data from a variety of locations located throughout the country or the world in one easy-to-access system.
RS-232
This standard communication protocol allows you to share data with other computerized equipment. Use it to print labels, operate programmable logic controllers and computers. The bi-directional interface allows the scale indicator to both send and receive data and commands from other equipment. The included operating software includes a print frame definition editor that allows custom outputs, such as complex printed labels.
RS-232 Add On
If you’d like to include additional information such as the date, time (12 or 24 hour format) and day of the week to your reports, this add on is the perfection solution. The internal clock can be set through the scale indicator’s menu system and is powered by an internal lithium battery that will keep time for up to 10 years—even if the power is removed from the scale.
RS-485
This robust, long distance network protocol allows you to connect several scales and your computer on a single line to form a network. While other wired options like RS-232 and USB require your scale to be located near your PC, RS-485 can successful transmit and receive data from up to 4,000 feet away. Our RS-485 to USB Interface allows you to directly control and log data from as many as ten scales on a single computer.
Set Point Controller
This device allows for simple batching and PLC-type functions. Set up to eight target weights at one time and use them to operate other equipment including feeders, mixers, motors, valves, solenoids and similar devices. Our set point controller is commonly used to automate various filling and mixing processes. You can control how the output lines behave based on the weight applied to the scale platform. Input and save numerous formulas in the scale’s memory for easy recall.
