Ink mixing is an extremely exact process that if done incorrectly can result in less than ideal results. One of the most important aspects of any mixing process is the accurate weighing of materials. To assist with this process, it’s critical that you choose a scale that’s both accurate as well as durable.
If you’re in the market for a new industrial scale for ink mixing, you’ve come to the right place. At Arlyn Scales, we’ve been designing and building some of the highest quality scales in the industry for more than 30 years. This ample experience has allowed us to develop a number of innovations that have truly revolutionized the scale industry.
Unlike many of our competitors who manufacture their scales overseas, we design and build all of our scales here in our US based factory. We’re headquartered in the heart of Long Island, New York, where we’ve been for the past 30 years. By having our design and manufacturing teams located side by side, we’re able to share ideas and bring up issues quickly to ensure they’re resolved prior to them ever making their way into our industrial scales. In addition, our design and manufacturing teams can work together to brainstorm new ideas that can improve how our customers use our scales.
A business model where we manufacture all of our scales in-house also gives us another unique advantage compared to some of our competitors. We’re able to sell our scales factory direct, which allows our customers to receive the highest quality industrial scales at prices that are extremely competitive in the market. We don’t have to use any type of distributor network, which allows us to work more closely with our customers and eliminate any confusion that may occur should any problems arise. Should you ever have an issue with one of our scales, or have a question you need answered, you can simply pick up the phone and give our offices a call. Whoever picks up the phone likely had a hand in designing or manufacturing your exact scale, which gives you an incredibly high level of customer service that isn’t possible without this factory direct approach.
One of our recent technological advancements that we’re most excited about, especially as it relates to ink mixing scales is our Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) technology, which powers our Ultra Precision Scales. This unique, internationally patented technology allows customers to weigh items like liquid, ink and other chemicals accurately and efficiently.
What Makes Our Ultra Precision Scales so Different?
Most all scales have one primary component in common – the load cell. The load cell is what produces the weight measurement that’s then transmitted to the display indicator to provide the scale user with an accurate weight reading. For the better part of the last 50-60 years, the most common type of load cell has been the strain gage load cell. This type of load cell powers strain gage scales, which are the most popular scale currently in existence. Strain gage load cells measure stress or strain to help provide an accurate weight measurement.
Strain gage load cells work much like a diving board. They’re made out of a thin piece of metal, which is attached to the bottom of the scale and the scale platform. When an object is placed on the scale platform, the load cells bends underneath the scale platform, which then sends a signal to the scale indicator that’s interpreted as a weight measurement.
One downside to strain gage scales is that they’re not able to offer precision accuracy and they can be damaged due to shock loading or overloading. This need for precision accuracy is what prompted the engineers at Arlyn Scales to look into another way of handling weighing objects all together.
With our Ultra Precision Scales, we don’t use strain gage load cells. Instead, we use Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) load cells that don’t measure stress or strain, but rather measure displacement. The amount of displacement required to produce an accurate reading is roughly 10% of the stress or strain required for a strain gage scale. Therefore, SAW load cells are able to be manufactured out of a much stronger, thicker metal that is a good fit for mixing inks, chemicals and other materials. In addition, Ultra Precision Scales are typically around 10 times as accurate as strain gage scales but cost roughly the same, making them a great option for many industries.
Aside from how our SAW load cells are made, there are a host of other reasons why more and more of our customers are purchasing our Ultra Precision Scales.
Additional Reasons to Choose our Ultra Precision Scales
Highly Resistant to Abuse
As mentioned above, SAW load cells are manufactured from a thicker metal, making them much more resistant to abuse, but still able to provide precision readings, which is unheard of in the industry. Force motor scales, the only other technology able to generate precision readings, are highly susceptible to temperature drifts and air currents, making them unusable in many instances.
Extremely Accurate Without Sacrificing Capacity
With our Ultra Precision Scales, you’ll not only have the precision measurements you’ll need to mix inks and other chemicals accurately, but you’ll also have access to a wide array of different scale capacities depending on your needs. Our SAW scales start with a 10 lb. capacity and go up from there topping out at 1,000 lbs.
